worldcat developers network

I attended today's WorldCat Developers Network luncheon at the Westin Boston Waterfront. I got to meet a number of colleagues whom I spent time with at the Seattle mashathon last fall, and the presentations were informative.

I've done a couple of small things, which I hope to expand on over time:
  • I wrote a Visual Basic/ASP.NET program (output; one example) that takes an Amazon list and redirects users back to a WorldCat Local instance when appropriate. (If it's a Kindle book, the link remains unchanged, sending the user to an Amazon record.)

  • I wrote a subject search program, also in Visual Basic/ASP.NET, that uses the Search API and xISBN for results information. This is still a work in progress.
There's a lot to admire in the network's application gallery, and having a developers network manager, Karen Coombs (she starts later this month) in place will undoubtedly move forward the efforts to extend WorldCat.org and WorldCat Local.

Thanks Al. Great to see you again at the Developer Network luncheon, and let us know when you're ready to create an application gallery poster for you--for one of the programs you list.
