combining IE 7's support for SearchProviders with Google Custom Search

Here's a good post by Jens Schaller ("Creating your own SearchProvider"), describing how to search user specified search engines from IE7. I quickly worked to integrate this with some of the search engines that I've created using Google Custom Search Engine:

and achieved good results, the problems with the beta Custom Search Engine notwithstanding.
