Last weekend, I had a chance to talk with several Google representatives about technologies, including the Google Custom Search Engine (beta). I decided to begin working on an engine this weekend dedicated to searching XML database technology sites. The engine can be accessed from my home page (see label "Search XML database technology resources").
I've been trying to develop some sophisticated engines. One useful document is the supported URL patterns listing. An advanced look at custom Google search engines can be found in this article written by John Biundo and Eric Enge.
My quick analysis: For one key engine, searching indexed Northwest Digital Archives content, I found that the custom search appeared to index only a subset of content. This was true even though I tried different URL strings and ensured that searching was supported across multiple languages.
