If you've performed .NET Framework development and are interested in geospatial data, I recommend that you investigate the interactive Virtual Earth Interactive SDK. It enables the creation of maps using this API, along with Visual Studio. To learn more about Microsoft Virtual Earth, including webcast opportunities, see the platform home page.
Unfortunately, the quality of the Pullman, Washington imagery in Virtual Earth wouldn't support the development of, say, a web application that provided campus libraries location information within a highly customized presentation. Works well for this urban location (shown above), including an ability to toggle the above map to a cool birds-eye view.
