update on RIAA actions...

I read a news story earlier this month about the University of Washington cooperating with the RIAA by delivering settlement offer letters to UW students. With that in mind, I decided to do some online searching on news stories on the RIAA, and learned that an exonerated defendant in Oregon is countersuing the RIAA for fraud and racketeering. This story isn't too surprising, given the organization's abusive conduct described in Lessig's Free Culture. I'm not sure I understand the position of the UW administration in siding the RIAA over its students, as described in this critique. The dismissal of the suit against Tanya Andersen (Atlantic v. Andersen) and her countersuit should have convinced UW administrators that at least some of the accused students may be innocent of the RIAA's charges.
