A public API for the WorldCat Search system was released on August 10. The API is described (at a high level) in this posting. This page provides descriptive information on its use.
Follow-up: I spent some time this weekend working with the API, using ASP.NET 3.5. Note that with the returned XML, there are multiple namespaces involved; thus, you must manage namespaces. After some failed attempts with MSXML, I wound up using the System.Xml and the XmlNamespaceManager classes. An arbitrary name must be assigned to the default namespace in the XmlNamespaceManager, and then referenced in XPath expressions that refer to the default namespace.
