follow-up on search engine vs. project front-end

I performed the follow-up analysis described in Wednesday's post. In rough terms, document accesses through search engines currently represent about 60 percent of total accesses, up from the 50 percent area 3-4 months ago. There are several factors at play; most importantly, the percentage of project content indexed by search engines, which is rapidly increasing.

For the NWDA, search engine access might be seen as supporting generalist searching, while the project's search/retrieval site has a number of features (e.g., controlled term searching; field searching; collection title browsing) that support specialist searching.
