Read this release in Marshall Breeding's blog regarding Relais International and LibLime. This is a follow-up to an earlier release describing Relais International's transition to an open source model.
The new business model for Relais International isn't fully clear to me, though I suppose it will depend upon support for its large, government STM customers (NLM, NIH) and its sales of hardware products, such as the scanning workstation that can be used with the software. Competing against ILLiad, particularly following its absorption under the OCLC umbrella, undoubtedly made the open source option more attractive.
