Ann Lally provided an intriguing description of linking out from Wikipedia to digital library resources. She describes the effort in detail in her current D-Lib Magazine article. During the Q&A session, I asked Ann about the potential problems in Wikipedia entry content, best examplified by the John Seigenthaler biographical errors described by Thomas Friedman in The World is Flat. Ann noted that in creating external links for digital collection resources, the UW Libs isn't making a value judgement about the content of the entry. I will be keeping this potential problem in mind as I read her article.
This practice (creating external definition links) has potential applicability to Northwest Digital Archives content. Early next week, I plan to check the assessment logs to see if there are any current referrals from Wikipedia to Northwest Digital Archives documents.
