Things became a little hectic on getaway day, but I still had a very productive day. One session that stands out was a presentation by NExpress librarians involved in the development of the ArticleReach system; the WSU Libs is participating in a beta implementation of this software. Important points in summary: the automatic cancellation capability had to be disabled for this consortium (due to false cancellations caused by record inaccuracies); this means that the cancellation process are being mediated by staff. Also, the info output from ArticleReach to ILLiad is available as a product. I expect that Systems will be supporting this information transfer as a project immediately. But what was most interesting is the fundamental change that the presenters described in their outlook towards interlibrary loan/document delivery in the context of unmediated article delivery. More to come on this point....
I gained a great deal from this conference, both in terms of personal connections (with Innovative staff, and with librarians and technologists from other institutions) and in terms of understanding the technical options available using the Millennium product.
Major shift in focus, to archival issues. Now, it's time to prepare for my Northwest Archivists presentation on expressive metadata formats.
